Mesothelioma Survivor & Contributing Writer

Alexis Kidd is a 17-year mesothelioma survivor from Houston, Texas. Diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma in her late 30s, she sought life-saving treatment and drew strength from her husband, a fellow cancer survivor, to keep fighting. Almost two decades later, Alexis continues to share her story with others to provide hope and inspiration to those affected by mesothelioma.

About Alexis

Alexis Kidd’s journey is a story of resilience, love, and the raw realities of battling mesothelioma for 17 years. Before her diagnosis, she was an active thirtysomething enjoying the hustle and bustle of city life, juggling two jobs and a packed social calendar.

Her days were a whirlwind of office work, shifts at a local boutique, and cherished moments spent enjoying music, attending art shows, and scootering around Houston with her husband, Christian. But in 2007, everything changed.

At just 37 years old, Alexis received some shocking news after routine gallbladder surgery. Doctors found a spot on her diaphragm that turned out to be cancer — specifically peritoneal mesothelioma. They estimated she had 6-24 months to live.

She was hit with a flood of emotions. But through it all, Christian stood by her side, providing unwavering support and love.

Her journey hasn’t been easy. From grappling with fear and uncertainty to navigating the physical and emotional toll of treatment, Alexis has faced it all with courage and resilience. Along the way, she’s become an advocate for holistic patient care, emphasizing the importance of compassion and understanding in mesothelioma treatment.

“All I can do is attempt to create something good with my existence,” Alexis said. “And if I can help give even one person a small bit of hope, then this life of mine is worth something.”

Today, Alexis finds solace in her husband, the support of her friends, and the simple joys of caring for her cherished cats. Through it all, she shines a light of hope for others, proving that even in the darkest of times, there is always room for love, laughter, and the strength to keep fighting.
