Chris’s Story
When a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, even limited time is precious. Chris’s father, John, was a United States Marine Corps (USMC) veteran who passed away in 2018 following a year-long battle with service-related cancer. However, Chris spent that year caring for his father as his health declined. The extra months of precious time he spent with his father before he passed made a world of difference to the Carberg family.
“I knew that we would create this website after I walked out of my father’s hospice on the day that he passed. I saw a beautiful sunset and found myself so grateful for even the limited time we were given. I wanted to share that appreciation with others fighting similar battles and help restore a sense of hope in their lives.”
– Chris, Founder of Mesothelioma Hope
His experience walking through his father’s illness inspired him to create a website that focused on helping families maximize their time together and give them hope as they walk through the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. Chris put together a team of talented and compassionate digital creators and multiple people with decades of experience helping patients with mesothelioma improve their quality of life. He loves being able to help people who are facing complex health challenges and give them hope and encouragement.
Chris’s Mission
Chris is motivated to come to work every day because of the courageous mesothelioma patients and their families. Getting to know them personally and seeing the impact of the work we do is what motivates him; he loves connecting people with our Patient Advocacy team and creating and distributing our free resources.
Chris also has a deep passion for telling the life stories of our users and helping to create a legacy for loved ones lost to mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases.
Helping people access new treatments in development is one of Chris’s goals for 2023 and beyond. He constantly researches medical journals to find new information to share with our community.
“We aim to point people toward solutions that lead to years of survival, but I believe that even a few extra months could feel like a lifetime. Every minute counts.”
