Devon Slattery

Mesothelioma Hope is made up of a team of Patient Advocates like Devon. With a strong background in service and support, she helps guide patients and families affected by mesothelioma through every step of their cancer journey.

An Advocate With a Heart for Helping Others

Devon brings empathy and compassion to her work each day. She understands how overwhelming a mesothelioma diagnosis can be, and she’s committed to offering support, answers, and encouragement to those who need it most.

Her path to advocacy was shaped early in life. Devon’s family was active in the Alzheimer’s Association, where she saw firsthand how powerful support and community can be during difficult times

Even though she earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland, Devon ultimately realized she wanted a more personal career — one that allowed her to make a real impact on people’s lives.

“I didn’t just want to work with numbers. I wanted to work with people. That’s what led me to this path.”

Deeply Connected to the Veteran Community

Devon feels a strong connection to veterans and their families. Her husband, a U.S. Army veteran, was medically discharged in 2017 and struggled for years to get proper care. With Devon’s support, he finally got the correct diagnosis and is now preparing for surgery.

This experience helps Devon relate to the veterans she speaks with, especially those navigating a misdiagnosis, confusion, or fear around getting help outside the VA.

A Life Rooted in Compassion

Originally from Monroe, Connecticut, Devon is known for her warm and calming presence. Patients often say they feel better just having spoken with her.

“I can only imagine how difficult it must be to process a diagnosis like mesothelioma while trying to figure out next steps. That’s why I’ve made it my mission to help guide them through available medical, financial, and emotional support resources, so they don’t have to face it alone.”

Outside of work, Devon enjoys skiing, horseback riding, reading, baking, and trips to the beach. Her favorite time of year is Christmas, when she embraces the joy of baking and decorating with loved ones.

Devon is honored to be part of the Mesothelioma Hope team and looks forward to supporting patients and families through their most challenging moments.
