In her role with Mesothelioma Hope, Claudia works closely with patients and their loved ones as they face new diagnoses, treatment decisions, and logistical challenges. She is focused on helping families find financial assistance and support services, so they can focus on what matters without added stress.
“Helping people is part of who I am. It’s in my DNA and was instilled in me growing up.”
– Claudia Pineda, Patient Advocate
Before joining Mesothelioma Hope, Claudia worked as a caregiver. One experience that stayed with her involved a patient who was moved into a nursing home and left without proper care. She continued visiting him daily, doing what she could to make him comfortable. That experience strengthened her resolve to speak up for people who can’t always advocate for themselves.
Claudia’s approach to patient advocacy is deeply personal. She lost her grandmother to cancer and witnessed the emotional toll it took on her family. Seeing someone she loved decline helped her better understand the fear and uncertainty families face after a mesothelioma diagnosis.
“Every morning I wake up excited knowing that I’ll have the chance to connect with someone who needs support, and that I can be the person to guide them, listen to them, and make a real difference in their day.”
– Claudia Pineda, Patient Advocate
Her work reflects the values she was raised with — empathy, compassion, and caring for others — and reminds her to appreciate time with her children, parents, and family.
Claudia completed college coursework at the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College, where she studied administrative child development. She is certified in Alzheimer’s caregiving, first aid, and is a notary for the State of Texas.
Outside of work, Claudia enjoys reading, crafting with her daughters, and playing board games. Friends describe her as someone who listens carefully and shows up when people need it the most.
